Tumbleweed Residence
Tumbleweed Residence
The Tumbleweed Residence reflects its owners’ vision of a home crafted from simple, honest materials—steel, concrete block, and wood—while celebrating the artistry inherent in its construction. Three distinct volumes interlock to form a composition deeply rooted in the landscape, revealed through a sequence of spaces experienced both within and between them.
The building’s forms are simplified and abstracted beneath a white stucco finish, with softened curves tempering a modernist rigor. This subtle exterior presence contrasts deliberately with the bold tactility inside, where craftsmanship is evident in every detail: the welds of custom steel windows, the tool marks on the waxed hot-rolled steel kitchen island, and the hand-turned walnut bar stools. Each element honors its material’s natural qualities, refined through the skillful care of its maker.
