Tarrytown Residence

The Tarrytown Residence unfolds around a carefully articulated private landscape at its center. Framed between a walled garden at the street and a serene courtyard at the rear, the interiors open fully to the outdoors beneath a continuous ceiling plane, delicately supported by expansive, custom site-glazed window walls.

Two abstract volumes—clad in elongated black brick and black-stained cedar—anchor the composition, shielding the home from view and offering a quiet defense against future neighboring development. Within, dark masonry contrasts with finely crafted millwork, raw steel, and a vivid palette of fabric, wallpaper, and tile—each material adding depth, richness, and texture to the domestic experience.

Arrival is marked by a passage beneath the broad reach of a mature live oak limb, leading into a carefully choreographed procession of spaces. Throughout, the architecture balances intimacy and openness: discrete rooms are clearly defined, yet a strong sense of continuity prevails. Glimpses ahead hint at what’s to come, while unexpected moments of delight unfold at every turn.
